A Guide to Getting Your Bot to Do Better QA (October 2026)

A bot that ships without checking is just a fast way to make messes. This guide is about turning your bot into a careful reviewer: it tries to break the work before you show anyone.
What better QA looks like
Better QA is boring on purpose. The bot knows what done means, runs the same checks every time, and writes bugs so a human can fix them without guessing. It is not vibes. It is a short trail of evidence.
Write a failing case first
Before the bot builds a feature or edits a page, ask it to name one concrete way the work can fail. Example: the form still submits with a blank email. Save that case next to the task. The bot must make that case fail, then make it pass. See Write a Failing Case First under Tips.
Keep a QA checklist the bot must run
Give the bot a fixed list: happy path, empty input, bad input, permission denied, and one edge case for this job. The bot runs the list and reports pass or fail for each line. If a line is skippable, it says why. Keep a QA Checklist the Bot Must Run has a starter list you can copy.
Log bugs with repro steps, not vibes
When something breaks, the bot writes: what you did, what you expected, what happened, and how to see it again in three steps or fewer. No I think it is broken. Link screenshots or URLs when you have them. Log Bugs with Repro Steps Not Vibes is the short version.
Wire QA into how the team works
Pair this with Getting Your Team Bots to Work for day-one drills and failure review. Use Bot vs Bot Bake Off when you want two bots to score each other on the same checklist. Naming Convention keeps bug titles and checklist files findable.
A simple weekly rhythm
Monday: refresh the checklist for the week. Midweek: failure review on the worst three bugs. Friday: shrink scope until the checklist is green. Discuss edge cases through the Links discussion for this guide.

QA is half of it. The other half is you staying in the review seat, which is what A Guide to Managing Your Bots: Human in the Loop is about: small batches, checking every run, and being the one who clicks Send.
